PDF to Excel Conversion That Runs in Your Browser

Modern browsers are powerful enough to read PDFs and create Excel files on their own. Sehnna uses this to convert your PDF on your device, without a server in between. Here is what happens behind the scenes.

Your files stay on your device. Conversions run in your browser.

Works best with digital PDFs that contain selectable text or tables. Scanned PDFs may need OCR.

What happens when you click convert

  • Your browser opens the PDF and reads every piece of text together with its exact position on the page.
  • Text that sits on the same line is grouped into rows.
  • Gaps between text blocks are used to detect columns, so table cells end up in the right column.
  • Numbers are converted into real numeric cells, while IDs with leading zeros stay text.
  • An XLSX file is built in your browser's memory and offered as a download.

Limits of in-browser conversion

Because everything runs on your device, very large PDFs (hundreds of pages) depend on your device's memory and can take a little longer on older phones. Scanned PDFs contain images instead of text, so they need OCR, which is coming soon.

Privacy: your files stay on your device

Your files stay on your device. Conversions run in your browser. Sehnna never uploads, stores or reads your documents – there is no server that receives them, no account and no email address.

PDF to Excel in your browser – questions and answers

Which browsers are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile.

Does it work offline?

The page needs an internet connection to load. The conversion itself runs on your device and does not send your file anywhere.

Why is in-browser conversion more private?

Because your PDF is never uploaded. It stays on your device from start to finish.

Can it read scanned PDFs?

Not yet. OCR and AI extraction are coming soon.
