Does your PDF need OCR?
Open the PDF and try to select a single word with your mouse or finger. If the word highlights, the PDF already contains text and does not need OCR – you can convert it with our PDF to Excel converter right now. If the whole page selects like a picture, it is a scanned PDF and needs OCR.
What you can do today
- Ask the sender for the original digital PDF or the Excel file.
- Download statements and invoices directly from the online portal – those are usually digital PDFs.
- Check if the system offers a CSV export, then use CSV to Excel.

What happens if I upload a scanned PDF today?
The converter tells you that no selectable text was found. Nothing is uploaded and nothing breaks – it simply can't read images of text yet.
Will OCR also run in my browser?

How can I tell if my PDF is scanned?
Try selecting text. If you can't select individual words, the PDF is scanned.
