From vector to pixels

An SVG describes shapes, so it can be drawn at any size without getting blurry. Many programs, upload forms and social networks still expect pixel images, though. The converter draws your SVG at the chosen size and saves it as PNG, so edges stay crisp and transparent areas stay transparent.

The size is based on the width and height in the SVG (or its viewBox). 2× doubles both, 4× quadruples them – useful for printing or for large slides. Very large results are limited to 8,000 pixels per side.

Limits of SVG in the browser

  • Fonts that are not embedded in the SVG are replaced by a similar system font.
  • Images linked from other websites inside the SVG are not loaded.
  • Scripts and animations in the SVG are ignored – you get a still image.

About SVG and PNG files

SVG
SVG is a vector format for logos, icons and illustrations. It describes shapes instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size – but many apps and upload forms only accept pixel images.
PNG
PNG is a lossless image format that keeps text and sharp edges crisp. Most screenshots are saved as PNG, and it supports transparent backgrounds.

SVG to PNG – frequently asked questions

How do I get a high-resolution PNG from an SVG?

Pick 2× or 4× under “Size” before you click “Convert to PNG”. The SVG is drawn fresh at that size, so edges stay sharp instead of being enlarged from a small image. 2× is selected by default.

What pixel size will my PNG have?

The width and height in the SVG are multiplied by the size you choose, so a 300 × 100 SVG becomes 600 × 200 pixels at 2×. If the SVG has no pixel width and height, its viewBox is used; if it has neither, 512 × 512. Each side is limited to 8,000 pixels.

Does the PNG keep the transparent background of my SVG?

Yes. Areas without content stay transparent in the PNG; nothing is filled in white. That makes the PNG easy to place on coloured slides or websites.

Why does the text look different in the PNG?

If the SVG uses a font that isn’t embedded in the file, the browser uses a similar font instead. Convert the text to paths in your design program to keep the exact look.

Why are pictures missing from my converted PNG?

Images that the SVG links from other files or websites are not loaded, because browsers block outside content when they draw an SVG as an image. Embed the pictures in the SVG file itself and convert it again.

What does “This file is not a valid SVG image” mean?

The file couldn’t be read as SVG – it may be damaged or a different file with an .svg name. If the SVG is valid but uses features browsers can’t show as an image, you see “could not be drawn” instead.

Can I convert several SVG files to PNG at once?

Yes. Add multiple SVGs and each one becomes its own PNG with the same name, for example logo.svg becomes logo.png. With more than one file you can download all of them as a ZIP or each PNG separately.

Is SVG to PNG free, and how big can an SVG file be?

Yes, it is free with no signup. Each SVG can be up to 10 MB.

Is it safe to convert an SVG file from someone else?

Yes. The SVG is drawn as an image, so scripts inside it are never run, and the conversion happens in your browser without uploading the file.
