When splitting a PDF helps

A scanned stack of documents, a long report or a bundle of invoices often arrives as one big PDF – but you only need to send, archive or upload individual parts. Splitting gives every part its own file, so a form that only accepts single pages or a mailbox with a size limit is no longer a problem.

  • One PDF per page: separate invoices, certificates or forms that were scanned together.
  • Two halves: share the first half of a document now and the rest later.
  • Parts of 2, 5 or 10 pages: keep each file small enough for upload portals and email.

Quality stays exactly the same

The pages are copied into the new files as they are – nothing is re-rendered or compressed. Text stays selectable and searchable, and images keep their original resolution. Bookmarks and form fields that belong to the original document as a whole can be lost in the parts.

Only want to remove a few pages instead of splitting everything? Use the PDF editor to delete, reorder or rotate pages and save one new PDF.

Split PDF – frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF into single pages?

Choose your PDF, keep “One PDF per page” selected and click “Split PDF”. Every page becomes its own PDF file, and you can download them all at once as a ZIP.

How do I split a PDF in half?

Choose “Two halves” and click “Split PDF”. With an odd number of pages, the first half gets one page more – a 7-page PDF becomes pages 1–4 and 5–7.

How do I split a PDF into parts of 5 or 10 pages?

Choose “Parts of 5 pages” or “Parts of 10 pages” (or “Parts of 2 pages”) and click “Split PDF”. The parts are cut from the start of the document; the last part simply contains the remaining pages, so it can be shorter.

Can I split a PDF at specific page numbers?

Not with this tool – it cuts the PDF into equal parts only. To get a specific range such as pages 4–9 as its own file, use Extract PDF pages and type the range there.

What are the split files called?

Each part is named after your PDF plus its pages, for example “report-page-03.pdf” or “report-pages-01-05.pdf”. Page numbers get leading zeros so the files sort in the right order. The ZIP with all parts is called “report-pdf.zip”.

Can I split a PDF on my phone without dealing with a ZIP file?

Yes. After splitting, the result lists every part under “Or download single files” with its own “Download” button. That is handy on iPhone and Android, where opening ZIP files is less convenient.

Why can’t my PDF be split?

The tool tells you the reason: a PDF with only one page has nothing to split, a password-protected PDF has to be unlocked first, and a damaged file cannot be read. Remove the password in the program that set it, or try another copy of the file.

Does splitting keep text, images and bookmarks?

Text and images are copied unchanged, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. Bookmarks of the original document are not carried over to the parts, and links that jump to another page of the document may stop working. Links to websites stay on their pages.

Is there a page limit or file size limit for splitting?

There is no page limit; each PDF can be up to 100 MB. Splitting is free, with no signup and no watermark on the parts.

Is my PDF uploaded when I split it?

No. The PDF is split in your browser, and the parts and the ZIP are created on your own device. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
