How the slides are built

Every PDF page is rendered as a sharp image and placed on its own slide. The slide size follows the proportions of your PDF, so nothing is cropped or stretched. Fonts, charts and layout look exactly like in the PDF – also on computers where those fonts are not installed.

Because each slide contains an image of the page, the text on the slide can't be edited as text. You can still add text boxes, notes, animations and new slides around the PDF pages in PowerPoint.

Good uses

If you need to edit the wording itself, convert the PDF to Word instead – there the text stays editable.

  • Presenting a PDF report, handout or brochure in a meeting.
  • Combining PDF pages with your own slides into one presentation.
  • Adding speaker notes to the pages of a PDF.

PDF to PowerPoint – frequently asked questions

How do I turn a PDF into a PowerPoint presentation?

Choose your PDF and click “Convert to PowerPoint”. Every page becomes one slide, and you download a PPTX file with the same name as your PDF.

Can I edit the text on the PowerPoint slides?

No. Each slide shows the PDF page as an image, so the original text can’t be edited as text. You can add new text boxes, shapes and slides around it; if you need to change the wording itself, use PDF to Word.

What slide size does the presentation get?

The slide size follows the proportions of the first PDF page, so a portrait A4 PDF gives portrait slides and a landscape PDF gives landscape slides. Pages with different proportions are fitted onto the slide and centred, so nothing is cropped or stretched.

Will the slides be sharp enough for a projector?

Yes. Each page is rendered at twice the normal resolution (144 dpi) and saved as a high-quality JPEG image. Only very large pages are scaled down to stay within about 12 megapixels per slide.

Does PDF to PowerPoint work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. Because every page is used as an image, scanned pages are placed on slides just like digital ones. The text on them can’t be edited, as with every page.

Why is the PPTX file bigger than my PDF?

Each slide stores a full image of the page instead of text and vector graphics, so the presentation can be larger than the original PDF, especially for text-heavy documents. If you only need some pages, extract them first and convert the smaller PDF.

Are links, speaker notes or animations included?

No. Links in the PDF are not clickable on the slides because each page is an image, and no speaker notes or animations are created. You can add notes, animations and new links in PowerPoint afterwards.

Can I open the slides in Google Slides or Keynote?

Yes. The PPTX file opens in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Apple Keynote and LibreOffice Impress. On a phone or tablet you can convert the PDF in the browser and open the file in the PowerPoint, Google Slides or Keynote app.

Is my PDF uploaded to create the presentation?

No. The pages are rendered and the PowerPoint file is built in your browser, so the PDF stays on your device and is not stored.

Is PDF to PowerPoint free, and how large can the PDF be?

It is free and needs no signup. Each PDF can be up to 50 MB.
